Welcome to the Town of Prosperity

This little patch of heaven, known to you as Prosperity, began in 1851 with the name of “Frog Level.” Later in 1873, a majority of the town petitioned the state legislature and the name was changed to Prosperity. In town you will find a variety of restaurants including German, Greek, Italian, Mexican, Soul Food, and BBQ cuisine. These restaurants stand ready to serve you along with the town pharmacy, hardware store, and several convenience stores. You will also find automotive repair, banks, insurance, financial assistance and Fortune 500 corporations (Kiswire, Pioneer Foods, International Paper, Georgia Pacific) which have located large production facilities here. The town has a selection of specialty shops such as antique stores, an interior design business, a custom furniture shop, and an art center. A variety of church denominations are located within the community in which to worship. Prosperity is also the home of nationally recognized, award-winning schools for grades kindergarten to 12th. Prosperity is a destination for those who desire to camp, boat, fish, ski, swim or just relax. Lake Murray, a 48,000-acre water playground, is located in the town’s backyard. Just 30 minutes from the Capital City of Columbia, and an hour and a half from the Blue Ridge Mountains, Prosperity offers all the above benefits as well as year-round recreation: 5 baseball fields, 6 soccer fields, tennis courts and walking trails. Cap it all with Prosperity’s Hoppin’ Arts and Crafts Festival, the Community Market Sale every Spring, the Spooktacular Halloween event in the fall, and the Christmas Parade and Shopper’s Walk, and you have a community that is both vibrant and involved. If you want big city comforts, dining, athletics, and shopping while simultaneously desiring a small-town atmosphere in which to raise a family or even retire, your search has come to an end in Prosperity, South Carolina.
